come in all size and shapes with prices from through to close on £800.00 The tonneau bed cover started out as a simple bed tarp in order to keep goods dry and out of sight in the pick-up trucks cargo bed. As the pickup evolved the beds became more challenging with smooth sides and the removal of the exterior rope hooks, pick up owners sought more than a simple bungee cord bed cover. Today at Formula4, we offer we believe the most comprehensive range of pickup bed covers still starting with the bungee cord tonneau for the cost conscious through to the latest twin locking Mountain top chequer plate aluminium for the more security minder customer. Following is a brief review of the bed deck cover available. Hooked type bed cover can only be fitted to cars with external rope hooks where these are fitted to the outside of the bed. These are generally fitted to single cab trucks such as the Hilux, Ranger and L200 singlecab pickup’s. This sheet is made from black re-inforced vinyl as used on curtainsided lorries. This is fitted using a bungee cord which attatches to the pick up beds external rope hooks. Pricing is circa £80.00 Custom type tonneau this type of cover can be fitted to all smooth sided pick up beds, where no external lashing hooks are fitted, generally most double cabs excluding some models of the Ford Ranger. The cover has an alloy frame which is clamped to the top edge of the bed using four quickly installed non-drill clamps, inset into these rails are poppers which the tonneau sheet attatches to. These custom tonneaus have a very tight non sagging sheet made from a re-inforced vinyl, these as the name suggests are custom fit to each model of car, each cover is supplied with two rain bars to keep the centre of the bed cover slightly higher than the sides to ensure there is no puddling of water. Initial Installation takes maybe 10-15 minutes, once installed the cover can be removed and re-fitted in a matter of minutes. When an open bed is required the tonneau can be rolled up a stowed under the rear cab window. Custom tonneau covers are circa £200.00 Folding tonneau cover A relative newcomer which has lessend the fit and removal time of many bed covers. The cover is hinged so it can be folded into 3-sections. In the states this cover is called the tri-folding torza tonneau. It’s patented hinge and quick release clamps allow for installation and removal within 1-minute. When its folded the open bed is fully accessable and the car can be driven a full speed. When opened out the cover provides great weatherproof protection and improves fuel economy as there is no tail gate drag so the car become more aerodynamic. These are now taking sales from the custom tonneau due to the simple user friendly operation. Again these are non drill and fit with four clamps. Each pickup has it’s own fitment. The Tri-folding pickup bed cover is also available in a hard finish, this cover has a mohair finish the same as used on BMW & Audi convertible hoods, this is then backed with a composite plastic material to add strength and structure. Price £260.00 to £450.00 Mountain top chequer plate aluminium Twin locks secure the latest Mountain top / Bjerg models ensuring security never becomes an issue. These covers have evolved since 1997 from the Danish maker. Alloy extrusions and designed specifically to each pick-up bed, only the highest quality chequer plate alloy sheeting is used to the obtain the best most robust quality cover. Stylish polished stainless steel effect twin sports loading rails are fitted as standard in order to carry loads rated at upto 80kgs. Mountain top specialise in this cover and hold patents protecting the design and fitment. Drilling is involved in most cases though this is kept to a minimum. Initial fit time is circa 1 hour, once fitted removal if necessary takes under 1-minute. Beware of a cheap poor quality imitation cover named the outback offered by some unscrupulous dealers. The outback cover infringes the patent designs of Mountain top and litigation will follow. Parts will not be available for the outback cover in Europe once enforced. Made of a tough acrylic plastic the bonnet guard is a styling accessory as well as been functional. The bonnet is protected from stone chips and bugs, flies etc don’t end up plastered over the windscreen in summer months. Generally, a smoked tinted bonnet guard is made for most fitments and a chrome option is available for some fitments. These are non-drill in the main and use specific hardware to attach. Our range covers most 4x4 applications as well as a series for commercials and vans. Window visors can be supplied as a front pairs, with an option to buy rear’s on many 4x4 fitments or as a set of 4 deflectors called a quad set. Our window visors are affixed using 3M adhesive tape. We DO NOT sell the problematic push in type. The push in type go into the window channel where only the glass should go. We experienced many problems some years ago with the push in type breaking or preventing the window from fully closing. Our chrome styling accessories are manufactured using CR6+ (23 micron) chrome plating as opposed to the cheaper versions you find advertised on ebay which use CR3+ (15 micron) which is not durable enough for European climates. We stock chrome mirror covers, door handle covers and inserts, b pillar covers, instrument surrounds and indicator surrounds. Roll Bars – Double hoop stainless steel
This Roll bar is manufactures from large 3" (76mm) diameter 304 stainless steel tubing which is hand polished to a bright mirror finish. This roll bar consists of two hoops behind the cab of the vehicle that bolts through the top of your bed rail, from this double hoop, two stays come back and again fix to the bed rail allowing full use and load capacity of the bed. There is no tonneau cover that will work with the double hoop roll bar including the rollnlock (only the single hoop roll bar will work) If you wish to mount spot lights to the roll bar then this is the option of the light mount brackets. Roll bars are sometimes referred to as pick up sports bars, pickup styling bars, pick up roller bars. Side Steps
We stock over six different styles of side bars and steps Most are manufactured from hand polished 2.5"(64mm) or 3" (76mm) mirror grade stainless steel tube. Inset with a hard wearing aluminium extruded tread. These are mirror polished for a lasting shine. As with all 4x4 side steps they offer side protection from knocks, from other less careful car users & stray supermarket trolleys. As well as been a useable step to gain access in and out of your 4x4.
