Diesel tuning performance upgrades with advanced plug and play adaptive technology

This means the system will automatically switch into economy mode when the car is being driving lightly to return maximum fuel efficiency,and then when hard acceleration is applied, it will switch back into performance mode within 0.1 seconds, completely transition free on the road. The Spider® diesel tuning system also benefits from a short program delay which is designed to help prevent over fuelling and smoke issues when the vehicle is started from cold.

The Spider® tuning system can be installed by anyone and no special knowledge is required. Installation in most cases is made simple by the use of original equipment connectors which allow you to plug the system in-line with your engines existing plugs. Once installed the engine is started and left on tickover for 60 seconds. In this first minute, the Spider® will automatically detect your cars sensor control voltage and will switch accordingly. Next the auto calibration stage is completed. This is where the system will detect and monitor your injection system for a pre-determined time and auto calibrate, allowing a complete custom fitment for your individual engine.

The R50 uses a modified version of Volkswagen’s five-litre V10 TDI turbo diesel engine, tweaked for this application to produce 346bhp rather than the usual 309bhp. That means it can reach a top speed of 146mph, and accelerate from 0-62mph in 6.7 seconds, which means it’s only slightly slower in a straight line than the Golf R32.

Sitting 20mm lower than the standard Touareg, the R50 can easily be spotted thanks to its 21″ ten-spoke alloy wheels, roof spoiler, restyled bumpers, oval exhaust tailpipe trims, wheelarch extensions, blue brake calipers, matt chrome radiator grille and honeycomb-style airdam inserts.

The R50 costs £61,885, or £3885 more than the previously range-topping Altitude V10 TDI.

Car safety organisation Euro NCAP has expressed concerns about the safety of pick-ups following recent tests.

It announced today that the Nissan Navara had scored just one out of five stars for adult occupant safety as a result of presenting an ‘unacceptably high risk of life-threatening injury’ to adult passengers.

The Navara also scored just three stars for child occupant protection and two stars for pedestrian protection, leading to further criticism.

In addition, the Isuzu Rodeo scored just two stars for adult occupant protection, and was also criticised for posing an ‘unacceptably high risk of life-threatening injury’. It scored two stars for child occupant protection and one star for pedestrian protection.

Responding to Euro NCAP’s findings, Isuzu said: ‘We are, frankly, surprised at these findings as Isuzu’s own internal tests awarded the Rodeo three stars. In addition, the Rodeo has an excellent ‘real world’ accident record and underwent more than 1 million km of testing before launch.

‘It is also worth noting that NCAP was introduced to assess passenger cars and it may be that the barrier test in particular provokes a different impact reaction from a higher vehicle such as a pickup truck. We need to study these results in more detail before further comment but can assure our customers that we treat safety very seriously.’

A third pick-up, the Mitsubishi L200, scored four stars for adult occupant protection. While this was deemed ‘respectable’ by Euro NCAP, it also highlighted the car’s three-star score for child occupant safety and one-star result for pedestrian protection as ‘disappointing’.

Euro NCAP decided to start testing pick-ups when it realised manufacturers were increasing the options and trims available in order to target buyers who may use the vehicle as family transport. These are the first tests it has carried out on pick-ups.

A statement said: ‘All the vehicles received disappointing child and pedestrian protection scores. Manufacturers must realise we will test all cars that could have an impact on the safety of European consumers’

The Nissan Navara’s adult protection rating has been upgraded from one star to three by safety organisation Euro NCAP.

The move follows changes to the pick-up’s airbag deployment and seatbelt pre-tension systems, which were retested shortly after the original results were announced last month.

The new software that controls the airbag and seatbelt pre-tension systems is available on all new Navaras. Current Navara owners are being invited to take their cars for a safety check-up at a Nissan dealer, where software changes will be made as necessary.

The child protection rating has also been improved from three to four stars, as a result of Nissan making more information on the car’s safety systems available.

Dr Michiel van Ratingen, secretary general of Euro NCAP, said: ‘Nissan has acted responsibly and promptly in response to our findings.’

Nissan has also pledged to make further safety strides with the Navara, after Euro NCAP’s original tests highlighted a chassis weakness.

A Nissan spokesman said: ‘You can’t change chassis design overnight, but our engineers are already poring over the Euro NCAP data to see what they can learn.’

Asked whether Nissan felt aggrieved that it had endured so much bad publicity for the one-star score, when it had already supplied Euro NCAP with a revised car for testing, the spokesman said: ‘We were open about the car being retested, and we had pulled out all the stops to put a fix in place.

‘We feel it would have been of more benefit to consumers if Euro NCAP had released the results of the retested car, or at least made it clear that the studies of the retested car were already underway.’
